MF05: The Stables at Meadowood – A Slice of Heaven on Earth

In this month’s post, I’d like to tell you about another barn and its amazing instructors and horses that helped shape my daughter’s and my experience with horseback riding. After taking six years off from riding during which I worked for a year in Afghanistan, married, and had two beautiful children, it was time to get back in the saddle. I waited only two months after delivering my second child to restart weekly riding lessons. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that the local stable where I had hoped to restart my equestrian career was not the right fit. However, everything happens for a reason and that’s how I found the Stables at Meadowood.

Located in Lorton, VA, the Stables at Meadowood are a unique horse farm run in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management. Situated on rolling pastures with access to miles of beautiful trails, the Stables of Meadowood offer unique opportunities to enjoy horse time. The Stables at Meadowood provide a family friendly atmosphere offering full-service horse boarding, English-style riding lessons, pony birthday parties, Pony Time classes (educational hands-on classes), and summer camps.

The Stables at Meadowood place particular emphasis on safety, offering lessons with no more than three riders per class and no large group lessons. The instructors teach proper use of aids by creating a partnership with the horse while developing confidence and solid riding skills. From beginning riders to the more advanced who wish to refresh their skills, their horses and team of instructors are always available to make riding time enjoyable. General horsemanship skills such as haltering, leading, and grooming are also taught for new riders.

You cannot go wrong registering for lessons or boarding your horse at Stables at Meadowood. The barn is clean and well organized while the staff is competent and very knowledgeable. The lush, green acres of pasture provide horses ample amount of turnout with amazing trails surrounding the barn. The owner and instructors always give their best in every lesson. If we didn’t move out of the area, we would still be taking lessons at Meadowood. So do yourself a favor and check out the Stables at Meadowood! Pay close attention to their events calendar and the upcoming summer camps.
